Tommy Dorfman: Biography at a Glance

  • Known first for her role as Ryan Shaver in Netflix's 13 Reasons Why, Tommy has since gone on to act in television and film while also shining light on her experience as a gender non-conforming person in Hollywood through her work with GLAAD and the Ali Forney Center. In 2021, Tommy reintroduced herself as a trans woman.

Biography

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Tommy Dorfman was first known for her role as Ryan Shaver in Netflix's 13 Reasons Why. She has also starred alongside Alan Cumming in Jeremy O. Harris' off- broadway hit Daddy. She can also be seen starring in the role of ‘Justin’ for Hulu’s limited series Love, Victor as well as 'Oscar' for the Hulu/Freeform limited series Love in the Time of Corona

In addition to acting in television and film, she is also known for shining light on her experience as a gender non-conforming person in Hollywood through her work with GLAAD and the Ali Forney Center. In 2017, Dorfman came out as non-binary and later in 2021, reintroduced herself as a trans woman.

Tommy spearheaded and art-directed a digital campaign for Ferragamo, featuring - for the first time for the brand - queer, trans, and plus-sized talent. She also photographed and art-directed Pete Davidson for the break-the-internet cover of PAPER magazine. 

She has made appearances for Saint Laurent, Margiela, Loewe, Fendi, Hugo Boss and Calvin Klein among others.
