Alex Conant is a founding partner at Firehouse Strategies, a DC-based public affairs firm, where he manages public affairs campaigns for many of the largest corporations and trade associations in the United States.
Prior to co-founding Firehouse Strategies in 2016, Conant spent 15 years working in the most senior levels of American government and political campaigns. His high-profile roles included serving as the communications director for Marco Rubio’s 2016 presidential campaign and Tim Pawlenty’s 2012 presidential campaign. Conant also worked as a senior aide on numerous winning U.S. Senate campaigns, including Joni Ernst’s 2014 campaign in Iowa and Rubio’s 2016 re-election in Florida. In 2008, he was the national press secretary for the Republican National Committee.
In addition to his political work, Conant served as a White House spokesman during President George W. Bush’s second term. His government work also includes positions in the U.S. Senate, the Office of Management and Budget, and the U.S. Commerce Department.
Conant is frequently quoted for his political analysis in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Politico, and Axios. He is also a regular guest on CNN and National Public Radio to provide news analysis. Conant is a member of the Washington Economic Club and the Arthur W. Page Society, the world’s leading professional association for senior public relations and corporate communications executives.
He earned his bachelor’s and a master’s in public affairs from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was the editor-in-chief of the student daily, The Badger Herald. As an alumnus, he currently serves on UW-Madison’s La Follette School’s Board of Visitors. Conant grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, and remains a loyal Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan (although he also claims the Nationals as his NL team). He lives with his wife, three sons, and dog in the Chevy Chase neighborhood of Washington, DC.
