Clara Spera is Senior Counsel at the National Women’s Law Center, where she helps lead the Abortion Access Legal Defense Fund, engages in strategic advising on reproductive rights and health issues, and litigates reproductive rights cases. She is a Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School, where she teaches a course on reproductive rights law. Clara previously worked at the American Civil Liberties Union with the Reproductive Freedom Project, where she brought several challenges to abortion restrictions in both federal and state courts, and worked at the Federal Defenders of New York, where she represented indigent defendants at all stages of criminal proceedings in federal court in Brooklyn. She also spent time in private practice at a large, international law firm, where she focused her pro bono practice on reproductive rights litigation and advising.

Clara is a graduate of Harvard Law School, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Chicago. Clara is a member of the Equal Rights Amendment Coalition’s ERA Advisory Council, a group dedicated to passing an Equal Rights Amendment.
