International Superstar, Singer, Songwriter & Actor
Ricky Martin is his generation's leading Latin Music figure - beloved by fans worldwide for his intuitive understanding of rhythm, passion for performing, and equal compassion for giving. With a track record of 95 platinum records and 40 gold records, he has received many awards, including two Grammys, five Latin GRAMMYs (including his Person of the Year Award), fourteen Premio Lo Nuestro, twelve Latin Billboard Awards, nine World Music Awards, and two American Music Awards, among many other. Martin has sold over 95 million albums and continues performing to sold-out stadium and arena audiences worldwide.
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Martin became accustomed to the spotlight after five years in Menudo. Martin set off on his musical path with the 1991 release of his self-titled debut solo album. With his first two albums, Martin quickly established himself as a superstar in the Spanish-speaking world. The continuously escalating success of landmark singles such as "Maria" and his globally embraced 1998 World Cup Anthem "La Copa de la Vida" ("The Cup of Life") became a historic performance at the 41st Annual GRAMMY Awards. Martin vaulted to the level of bona fide global superstar and the natural performer to lead an oncoming cultural revolution.
After taking two and a half years off from the music industry, Martin returned to his natural place in the artistic spotlight with an even deeper understanding of his personal and musical journey. In the spring of 2011, Martin released Musica+Alma+Sexo, a chart-topping success. Wanting to share his latest music first-hand with fans worldwide, Martin launched the extensive and fiercely energetic "M.A.S. Tour" - performing in sold-out arena and stadium concerts worldwide.
It was only a short time before magnetic acting appearances in General Hospital and a Broadway run in Les Miserables enticed wider audiences far beyond the era's perceived limitations of a Latin music artist. In 2012, Martin guest starred on FOX's hit high school musical T.V. series, GLEE. Martin also returned to the Broadway revival of the hit musical Evita and spent the latter part of 2012 in a lead role as Ché, both shows by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
After his successful year-long Broadway run, Martin started another adventure, this time as one of the "coaches" in several seasons of The Voice Australia. Martin then released his Greatest Hits album in Australia, which became the # 1 album in the country. Along with the release of his hit single, Come with Me, produced by D.N.A. (Anthony Egizii and David Musumeci), the single hit # 1 on Billboard's "Latin Airplay."
Best known for his music and performances, a new chapter in Martin's storied career began with his debut on the New York Times Bestseller list with the fall 2010 release of his highly praised autobiography "M.E.." Martin continues to inspire young people to dream big. Martin's love of performing as a child inspired him to write his first children's book, Santiago the Dreamer, in "Land Among the Stars," illustrated by Patricia Castelao. The book was released in November 2013 and simultaneously published in English and Spanish hardcover editions.
During the summer of 2014, Martin launched his television special SuperSong on Crackle, a World Cup song competition for aspiring musicians and fans worldwide. "Vida," Martin's second World Cup song, was released worldwide as a single and was included in the official 2014 FIFA World Cup album, "One Love, One Rhythm." In 2015, Martin teamed up with producer Simon Cowell and Haim Saban as judge and executive producer of Univision Network's musical competition "La Banda." The top five were combined into CNCO, with Martin serving as their mentor and head of their management team for three years. CNCO has become a chart-topping group and the recipient of numerous awards.
In February 2015, Martin released his tenth studio album, A Quien Quiera Escuchar, with its first two chart-topping singles, Adios and Disparo Al Corazon. The album reached the top of national and international charts, along with La Mordidta and Mr. Put It Down, which featured Pitbull. The album debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. charts and won Best Latin Pop Album at the 2016 Grammy® Awards. The album was perhaps the most personal and intimate recording that Martin has released. The album was followed by the release of the international hit "Vente Pa'Ca" with Maluma and the successful One World Tour that kicked off in Las Vegas and continued throughout the U.S. and Canada.
In March 2016, Martin kicked off with rave reviews of his Las Vegas residency "ALL IN" at the Park Theater at Monte Carlo Hotel & Casino, which extended until 2018 due to its popularity.
Immediately after the tour, Martin starred as Antonio D'Amico, Gianni Versace's long-time partner opposite Edgar Ramirez and Penelope Cruz in Ryan Murphy's F.X. Series, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. His superb acting earned Martin his first Emmy nomination.
In 2018, Martin collaborated with international artists Wisin & Yandel in "Fiebre," and in 2019 released another hit, "Cántalo," a tribute to canonical salsa featuring both Residente and Bad Bunny.
During the pandemic in 2020, Martin surprised fans worldwide with the release of Pausa, following his GRAMMY-winning 2015 album A Quien Quiera Escuchar. The critically acclaimed E.P. features collaborations with Sting, Carla Morrison, Residente, Bad Bunny, Diego El Cigala, and Pedro Capó. Pausa was awarded a Latin GRAMMY® in 2020 and was nominated for a GRAMMY® award in 2021. Its thought-provoking subject matter and captivating performances furthers Ricky Martin's reputation as one of the world's most extraordinary artists.
In July 2020, Martin debuted a special "Headphone Edition" of Pausa. The "Headphone Edition" marks the first music ever produced incorporating an all-new audio technique that Martin and celebrated multi-Grammy award winner and music mix engineer Jaycen Joshua perfected and have named "Orbital Audio." The patent-pending audio technique creates a stunning new immersive headphone music listening experience.
In 2021, Martin returned to the studio to release "Qué Rico Fuera" featuring Paloma Mami, which debuted as his first single from the highly anticipated E.P. released in 2022. "Qué Rico Fuera" reached number one in Chile, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and Uruguay, as well as the top 10 in El Salvador and Argentina. After an accompanying music video was released, the song was nominated for International Collaboration of the Year at the 2021 Premios MUSA.
The same year, on September 25, 2021, Enrique Iglesias joined Martin on a live concert tour that became the most successful tour of the year.
In 2022, he continued to promote his legacy by leading the contemporary scene with his most recent album, Play. At the same time, Ricky began filming the American series Palm Royale, where he is one of the stars alongside Laura Dern, Kristen Wiig, Carol Burnett, and Allison Janney, among other television and film luminaries.
In July 2022, Ricky premiered a symphonic format concert at the iconic Hollywood Bowl, led by Venezuelan Music and Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, which generated rave reviews from the press and the thousands of people who witnessed his incredible show.
This prompted several countries to bring this new format, closing the year by offering six sold-out concerts in Colombia, Argentina, and Chile, respectively. Due to high demand, multiple concerts in Latin America and Europe were confirmed in several countries, keeping Ricky on stage during the entire 2023, both performing "Ricky Martin Sinfónico" and "The Trilogy Tour" alongside Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull, which traveled through several cities in the U.S. and Canada.
"The Trilogy Tour" was also a success, so a second leg started in early 2024 and lasted until March 2024. Three days later, the Emmy-nominated star was on the promotional tour and premiere of the highly anticipated series Palm Royale, which is currently streaming on Apple T.V. +. Martin plays Robert, one of the main characters, alongside Laura Dern, Kristen Wiig, Allison Janney, and Carol Burnett. The show and his performance have received rave reviews from the press and critics.
