Decoding Trade Policy: How US Tariffs Will Reshape Global Businessarrow-down

The Trump Administration has introduced a series of new tariff trends that will define the business landscape for the years to come. The convergence of US trade policy, foreign policy, and domestic policy – including immigration and counternarcotics – is unprecedented and means that countries and companies have to plan for a range of drivers for the US administration implementing trade-related penalties. Plus, the world today looks very different than when President Trump initiated tariffs in his first term. Allies and competitors alike have been preparing for tariffs and are responding with more targeted and immediate measures. Separating trade-related rhetoric vs. reality will also be critical to effective strategic planning. As a seasoned geopolitical expert, Samantha Vinograd will help identify the real drivers of trade-related measures, how the global economy and US trading partners will respond, and what kinds of scenarios businesses should plan for in the months ahead.

Finding the Opportunities Along with the Risksarrow-down

In a year defined by upheaval – with incumbent Administrations around the globe taking a back seat to new players with new agendas – every business needs to think proactively about the risks and the opportunities for their bottom lines. Analyzing rhetoric vs. reality is key alongside thinking carefully about what policy, political geopolitical, and regulatory changes materially impact their business. In this conversation, Samantha Vinograd will explore these factors including trade dynamics, great power competition, cyber campaigns, changes to irregular and regular migration, disinformation, and more. Drawing from her career serving in senior roles under both Republican and Democrat presidents – in addition to her time in the private sector – Vinograd will outline not just what issues businesses need to think about, but also how to navigate them.

Audiences will hear from a seasoned security expert on:

    • How to analyze which geopolitical opportunities and risks actually impact their business operations, brand, and revenue today, tomorrow, and into the future
    • What kind of security developments to plan around
    • How to calibrate content and engagement to optimize opportunities and mitigate risk
    • Which nontraditional tactics players globally are using to achieve their security and economic goals including cyber attacks, disinformation, and more
Making Sense of a Noisy Worldarrow-down

With emerging technologies, dynamic actors, and a historically fast-paced geopolitical environment, Samantha Vinograd knows how to identify the risks and opportunities that matter most. Having served under three Presidents in key security roles, Samantha understands how to cut through the noise and offers analysis about what to care about and why. Having most recently served as the Assistant Secretary for Counterterrorism, Threat Prevention, and Law Enforcement Policy at the Department of Homeland Security she knows firsthand the breadth and depth of security issues affecting all kinds of stakeholders and has personally delivered counsel to senior leaders on what to do about it. Her experience in key private sector roles at Goldman Sachs, Stripe, and now Brunswick Group also means that she knows what matters to businesses.

From disinformation to counterintelligence, border security to counterterrorism, the Middle East, China, and Russia, Samantha provides analytic insights that are key to strategic planning and understanding the world around us.

    Cybersecurity: A Shared Threatarrow-down

Cybersecurity threats affect every aspect of our lives today, and threat actors of all kinds have found cyberspace to be a productive domain. Threat actors are innovating far more quickly than governments can keep up. That’s why confronting cyber threats – ransomware, phishing, and more – requires a new kind of public-private partnership and a new level of trust and planning among players.

In this conversation, Samantha Vinograd discusses a path forward to address our cyber threats and ways to protect ourselves and our businesses in the meantime. Samantha also explores disinformation, leaving audiences with a better understanding of how to proactively gather information about disinformation, how to develop a risk methodology for disinformation narratives, and potential response mechanisms.

The Great Power Competition: Who Will Win?arrow-down

Analysts have been speaking about the competition of the Great Powers for some time, namely competition between the US, China, and Russia. However, with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, ongoing disinformation, and cyber attacks against the US alongside China’s increasingly aggressive behavior and disregard for US entreaties, is it time to call the competition?

In this conversation, Samantha Vinograd provides a nuanced analysis based on a variety of factors including economic strength, military capabilities, diplomatic influence, and technological advancements to help the audience understand what's next in the geopolitical landscape. Highlighting the need for diplomacy, alliances, and international cooperation, Samantha explores the necessary steps to manage tensions and prevent conflict for all countries involved while also illuminating the potential business impacts of this global competition.

We absolutely relished the time with her. She was exactly who was needed at exactly the right time.
