Glen Powell is an award-winning actor who can currently be seen starring alongside Sydney Sweeney in Sony’s romantic comedy and international box office hit Anyone But You. The film is an international sensation grossing over $200 million worldwide. Powell can also be seen in the action-comedy Hit Man, for director Richard Linklater, which Powell also co-wrote, and produced.
He also appears in the highly anticipated action film Twisters directed by Lee Isaac Chung. Powell stars opposite Daisy Edgar-Jones in this new chapter to the 1996 box office hit Twister.
Additionally, Powell’s U.S. naval aviation documentary, The Blue Angels, was released by Amazon’s Prime Video in IMAX theaters and streaming on Prime Video. The film, which he produced alongside J.J. Abrams’, chronicles a year in the cockpit with one of the world’s top aviator teams, the Navy and Marine Corps flight squadron, through their intense training and aerial touring show.
Powell will next commence production on the revenge thriller Huntington, written and directed by John Patton Ford, for A24 and Studio Canal. Additionally, Powell will next co-create and star in the upcoming series Chad Powers, a half-hour comedy for Hulu based on an Eli Manning sketch about a quarterback whose college career ends after bad behavior. The series hails from 20th Television and will stream on Hulu. Powell will also executive produce the series under his production co-banner, “Brainstorm.”
In 2022, Powell starred in two widely acclaimed films, starting with the blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, the long-awaited sequel to the 1986 mega-hit Top Gun. Powell plays ‘Hangman’, one of the hot-shot naval aviators who takes to the skies with Tom Cruise’s Maverick. The film received an A+ CinemaScore, garnered rave reviews, grossed more than $1.4 billion worldwide, and received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. Powell got his pilot’s license after his extensive training during filming. In the historical war epic Devotion, he portrayed real-life Navy hero and Medal of Honor recipient Thomas Hudner. The film tells the harrowing true story of two elite U.S. Navy fighter pilots during the Korean War and their heroic sacrifices, which would ultimately make them the Navy’s most celebrated wingmen.
Powell received CinemaCon’s 2022 Star of Tomorrow Award and was honored as one of Variety’s 10 Actors to Watch in 2019 alongside Cynthia Erivo and Jessie Buckley. He notably won a Screen Actors Guild Award for his portrayal of legendary astronaut John Glenn in the Oscar-nominated true-life drama Hidden Figures, together with his castmates, including Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Kevin Costner.
His additional past credits include Richard Linklater’s animated sci-fi film Apollo 10 ½ for Netflix; the 2018 hit romantic comedy Set It Up opposite Zoey Deutch; Richard Linklater’s critically acclaimed comedy coming of age drama Everybody Wants Some!!; Ryan Murphy’s hit series Scream Queens; as well as the final installment of the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises. He also voiced a role on Netflix’s animated adventure series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous from Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Colin Trevorrow.
