Head Coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, NBA Veteran, and Co-Founder of ThreeFourTwo Productions
JJ Redick enters his third season as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. The 42-year-old is their 29th head coach in franchise history and the 25th in the Los Angeles era.
In his second season leading the Purple and Gold in 2025-26, Redick led the team to a 53-29 regular season record and the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference. He became the first Lakers coach since to record back-to-back 50-win seasons and just the 16th coach in NBA history to win 50-plus games in each of his first two campaigns. The team’s 53 regular season victories marked the franchise’s highest win total since the 2010-11 season. In the 2026 NBA Playoffs, Redick led the Lakers to a 4-2 first round series victory over the No. 5 seed Houston Rockets.
In Redick’s first season at the helm, the Lakers finished the regular season 50-32, securing the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference and a berth in the 2025 NBA Playoffs. The campaign marked the franchise’s first 50-win season since 2019-20. Redick became just the third head coach in team history to win 50 games in his first full season, joining Jackson and Pat Riley.
Prior to his coaching career, Redick enjoyed a standout 15-year NBA playing career. The sharpshooting guard appeared in 940 regular-season games with the Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans, Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks and Orlando Magic. Renowned for his perimeter shooting, Redick connected on 41.5 percent of his 3-point attempts for his career and made 1,950 triples, ranking 22nd in NBA history at the time of his retirement. Over his 15 seasons, he was part of 14 teams that advanced to the postseason.
Shortly after his retirement, Redick joined ESPN as a game analyst and was promoted to the network’s lead broadcast team. In June of 2024, Redick called the NBA Finals alongside colleagues Mike Breen and Doris Burke.
Redick is a co-founder of ThreeFourTwo Productions where he co-hosted two popular podcasts: Mind the Game alongside LeBron James and The Old Man and the Three. His success in broadcasting and media further showcased his basketball acumen, paving the way for his transition to coaching with the Lakers in 2024.
Selected 11th overall in the NBA Draft by Orlando, Redick starred at Duke University previously. A two-time consensus first-team All-American, he was named the Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year in and remains the program’s all-time leading scorer. Duke retired his No. 4 jersey and he was inducted into the Duke Athletics Hall of Fame. Prior to his collegiate career, Redick was a McDonald’s All-American at Cave Spring High School in Roanoke, Va.
Redick and his wife, Chelsea, have two sons, Knox and Kai.
