Biography
Patrick Ewing was the literal center of attention during the longest sustained period of success in New York Knicks franchise history. Over his 15-year Knicks career, "The Big Fella" became the all-time club leader in virtually every category and is arguably the greatest player ever to wear the orange and blue.
Ewing was named NBA Rookie of the Year in 1986 and collected seven All-NBA selections, three All-Defensive nods, and 11 All-Star designations. He was named one of the League's 75 Greatest Players at the NBA's 75th Anniversary in 2021 and one of 50 Greatest Players of the NBA's first half-century in 1996. He remains the all-time Knicks leader in total points (23,665), games played (1,039), rebounds (10,759), blocks (2,758), steals (1061) and minutes (37,586).
Ewing played 15 (of 17) seasons in Knicks livery, by far the most in club history. He led the Knicks to the NBA Playoffs in 13 consecutive years, claimed three Atlantic Division titles, earned four appearances in Conference Finals, and won Eastern Conference titles in 1994 and 1999.
His Knicks career ended in the summer of 2000, and Ewing played two final NBA seasons with Seattle and Orlando. He currently sits at 24th on the NBA's all-time scoring list (24,815).
In his post-playing career, Ewing served more than a decade as an NBA assistant coach, then logged six seasons (2017-18 through 2022-23) as head coach at his alma mater, Georgetown University, leading the Hoyas to a 2021 Big East title.
Ewing climaxed his storied career with a first-ballot Basketball Hall of Fame enshrinement as part of the Class of 2008. He was honored in 1996 by the Garden Walk of Fame (the only Knick enshrined while still an active player) and in 2009 in the inaugural class of Knicks Legends.
Ewing re-joined the organization as basketball ambassador in 2024. In this role, he assists with both business and basketball operations.
