Geri Halliwell Horner is an accomplished singer, writer, producer, and actress who is widely recognized for her iconic place in British pop culture as an original member of the record-breaking girl group The Spice Girls. As ‘Ginger Spice’ Geri played a formative role in the band as they became one of the biggest selling girl groups of all time. The band won numerous accolades including Brit Awards, American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and World Music Awards.
As a bestselling female artist, Geri holds the most number ones of the 21st century. She launched her solo career in 1999, going on to sell 21 million records. The following year, she was nominated for several BRIT awards, in the categories ‘Best British Female Solo Artist’ and ‘Best Pop Act’. Overall, as an artist, Geri has sold 100 million records as both a band member and a solo act.
She partnered with the British retailer Next to launch several clothing collections, including swimwear and a Union Jack-themed line inspired by her iconic Union Jack dress. The Geri by Next swimwear collection was designed for women of all shapes and sizes.
Alongside her success in music and fashion, Geri is also an acclaimed author. Her book series, Rosie Frost, launched to international acclaim, with the debut novel, Rosie Frost and the Falcon Queen, quickly earning a place on the New York Times Bestseller list. She previously became a number one bestselling author with the release of her beloved children’s series Ugenia Lavender, having signed a six-book deal with Macmillan Children’s Books. The series centers on the adventures of a bold and positive female role model for young girls.
Geri has been heard as a voice actress in the short animation The Crown with a Shadow. The animation, based on the real-world gender-morphing skunk fish, was used as a positive story about the transgender community. Geri voiced the character of “The Queen.” Her other film work includes a role in Sony’s Gran Turismo, the box office–topping adaptation of the best-selling racing video game, where she starred alongside Djimon Hounsou and David Harbour, under the direction of District 9’s Neill Blomkamp.
Geri produced, wrote, and directed the YouTube docuseries Rainbow Woman, which consisted of short episodes following her personal life, travels, and exclusive music. The YouTube channel has reached over one million views. She partnered with yoga teacher Katy Appleton to create a yoga program that focuses on improving overall well-being, including physical and mental health. The DVD was called Geribody Yoga.
As a writer and lyricist, Geri has been featured on the soundtrack of hit franchises such as The Simpsons, Bridget Jones Diary, and Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before with her part in the hit single ‘Wannabe’.
She is an ambassador of the Royal Commonwealth Society, which works to improve the prospects of Commonwealth citizens through literacy, equality, and connected communities.
Upon taking a position as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN, Geri promoted reproductive health care, equality, and education. As part of her work on this front, she has addressed Congress on behalf of the UN for the bill of rights for women’s reproductive healthcare. She has also spoken at the Oxford Union Talk and addressed Harvard, on women’s empowerment and a purpose-driven life.
She is also an ambassador for the underprivileged youth charity, The Prince’s Trust, and an ambassador for Childline. She released the single Angels in Chains on behalf of the Childline charity. As a patron of the national charity, Breast Cancer Care, Geri has campaigned for further awareness of the early signs of breast cancer in younger women. She performed at the Breast Cancer Care Show, an annual fashion event in London in support of the charity, of which Geri is a VP.
Geri is an outspoken supporter of animals and joined the Duke of Edinburgh at the unveiling of the Tiger Territory at the London Zoo, a multi-million project to house and protect Sumatran tigers. She also launched her Ugenia Lavender book at the London Zoo.
Geri received an honorary doctorate award from Sheffield Hallam University in recognition of her commitment to raising the aspirations of children and young people, advocating for women’s rights, and her outstanding contribution to the music industry over the last 25 years. Following this, she has given talks to aspiring writers at the university and the importance of literacy, including for The Commonwealth Society, at Oxford University and Harvard.
