Biography

Named “Sexiest Chef Alive” by People magazine, Rocco DiSpirito’s ability to offset classical European techniques with unconventional, vivid flavor has earned him scores of accolades, including “America’s Best New Chef” by Food and Wine, “Most Exciting Young Chef,” by Gourmet, and an award for best cookbook by the James Beard Foundation. He began his culinary career at age 11 in his mother’s Italian-American kitchen and later enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America, where he graduated with honors in 1986. He then studied French regional food and wine at the prestigious Jardin de Cygne restaurant in Paris before going on to Boston University, where he graduated cum laude with a degree in Business.

Rocco is the author of #1 New York Times bestseller, Now Eat This! Diet, a follow up to 2010’s Now Eat This!: 150 of America's Favorite Comfort Foods, All Under 350 Calories, in which he transforms America's favorite comfort foods into deliciously healthy dishes, all with no bad carbs, no bad fats, no sugar, and maximum flavor. His works also include the James Beard Award-winning Flavor, Rocco's Italian American, Rocco's Real Life Recipes, Rocco’s 5 Minute Flavor, Rocco Gets Real: Cook At Home Every Day, The Pound a Day Diet and Cook Your Butt Off.

In Winter 2012 Rocco hosted Now Eat This! with Rocco Dispirito, a new show inspired by his book series in which he challenges families and individuals to make over their diets and adopt a healthier lifestyle. Past television credits include Rocco’s Dinner Party, The Biggest Loser, Rachael Ray Show, Good Morning America and Top Chef.
