    Biography

    Thando Dlomo is a recent graduate of the University of Southern California, where she received her Master of Science in Journalism. She is a Multimedia Journalist and Producer, born in Johannesburg, South Africa to her domestic worker grandmother. 

    Thando excelled as a part of the first graduating class of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy before coming to the United States for her undergraduate degree in 2012. She received her undergraduate degree from an HBCU, Johnson C. Smith University.

    She has kept activist entertainment and culture at the center of her reporting, touching on topics such as representation in television and the usefulness of the hashtag culture in Hollywood- receiving praise from creators such as Ava DuVernay and Ms. Winfrey for her strong interviewing skills and fresh perspective as a South African woman.

    Her most recent clients include Viacom/BET International; where she served as a panel moderator during BET Awards 2018/9, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Pharrell William’s I am Other non-profit; where she was a panelist and moderator for the inaugural Something in The Water Festival. 

    Before starting her practice in television, Thando served as an HR professional for the Discovery Channel.

    Currently, Thando works for CBS at Entertainment Tonight, supporting their efforts to branch out into vast demographics in the digital space. Her official title: Content Producer.

    Thando believes that education is the ultimate equalizer and credits her life to being the ultimate example of this.

    As a speaker, Thando’s voice can be remembered through her many conversations surrounding her belief in education and the role that Oprah Winfrey played in changing her life as a graduate of her leadership academy. 

    Thando has spoken regularly at schools and most recently in 10 prominent cities across the United States with Canadian organization, One Woman. She has held spaces in small rooms with big names, as well as in arenas with bigger crowds. Thando connects to others by sharing a unique story of overcoming adversity, leaving hearts and minds forever changed. 

    Thando’s thoughts and keynotes have been known to pull the audience towards action, with many helming her as the voice to use to get things done.
